A man who set off an explosion in the entrance of a high-rise building in the city of Balakovo, Saratov region, was detained. This was announced on Saturday, March 1, by the Investigative Department (SU) of the Investigative Committee (IC) for the region.

"... a 38-year-old man was detained, suspected of committing crimes under Part 3 of Article 30, paragraph "e" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted murder committed in a generally dangerous manner") and Part 1 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code The Russian Federation ("Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, transfer or carrying of explosives or explosive devices")," the agency said in a Telegram post.

It is specified that the suspect planted an explosive device at the entrance door of one of the houses in Balakovo. When the 38-year-old woman, the ex-wife of the accused, entered the building, the device was activated. As a result of the explosion, she received multiple injuries and was hospitalized.

The attacker acted out of jealousy, the SU of the Investigative Committee for the Saratov region clarified.

At the same time, three days before the incident, the man planted the same device in another house in the city in order to mislead law enforcement officers.

"The investigator of the Investigative Committee conducted a number of investigative actions with the defendant, and it is planned to bring charges. Taking into account the evidence obtained, the investigation intends to apply to the court with a petition for the election of a preventive measure in the form of detention," the department said.
