It became known about the dismissal of General Popov from the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation

"I found out by accident that I had been dismissed from the armed forces and was removed from the unit's list on December 26 last year. It later turned out that on June 1, 2024, the Russian Ministry of Defense sent me on vacation, which I de facto spent in jail," he said.

At the same time, according to Popov, he did not receive official notifications of his dismissal.

The former general added that he had asked for clarification of the circumstances of his dismissal, and stressed that he was ready to accept the leadership's decision, but would do so in compliance with the law.

The day before, the court sent Popov in the pre-trial detention center in the case of major fraud and forgery.

Popov was arrested on May 17, 2024 for two months, to him the charges were filed on May 24. On May 23, the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation asked for his transfer under house arrest, but on June 7, the 2nd Western District Military Court left Popov in jail. RF IC on July 4th added official forgery to Popov in the final version of the charges.

After that, Popov was placed under house arrest. His lawyer Sergei Buinovsky reported on July 18 that Major General appealed the term of house arrest, but did not appeal the commutation of the preventive measure. The house arrest has been extended several times.

At the meeting on October 16 last year, Popov pleaded not guilty to forgery and fraud on an especially large scale.
