Monument to participants of the Great Patriotic War to be unveiled in Mongolia

A monument to compatriots and citizens of Mongolia who participated in the Great Patriotic War (WWII) will be unveiled in Ulaanbaatar, Russian Ambassador to Mongolia Alexei Yevsikov told Izvestia.

"On May 9, the "Immortal Regiment" march will take place in the Mongolian capital, flowers will be laid at the Memorial to Soviet Soldiers on Mount Zaisan and the monument to Marshal of the Soviet Union G.K. Zhukov, festive concerts at the Russian House in Ulaanbaatar. A reception will be organized at the embassy. A landmark event will be the opening of a monument in Ulaanbaatar to our compatriots and Mongolian citizens who fought on the fronts of the Second World War," the ambassador said.

In addition, in the near future, 25 citizens of Mongolia will be in accordance with the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin Putin will be awarded commemorative medals "80 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945," the ambassador added.

On the eve of Victory Day, contests of military-patriotic songs, poems and drawings will be held among Mongolian youth.

"Also, the National Art Gallery of Mongolia is currently preparing to open an exhibition of campaign posters "Windows of TASS", produced during the Great Patriotic War," Evsikov summed up.

Mongolia made a significant contribution to the defeat of German fascism. From the very first day of the German attack, Mongolian citizens, giving their last preference, formed Red Army relief units to defeat the enemy. There were also those among the Mongols who voluntarily joined the ranks of the Red Army to fight the invaders.
