The United Nations (UN) has suspended financial assistance in some regions Ukraine amid declining support USA. This was announced on February 28 by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

"In Ukraine, cash-based programs have been suspended in key regions, which are a key element of humanitarian assistance aimed at reaching one million people in 2024," he said.

Guterres added that the consequences of the reduction in American support are "catastrophic" for vulnerable populations around the world.

"First of all, I want to express my deep concern about the information received over the past 48 hours by UN agencies, as well as many humanitarian organizations and NGOs (non—governmental public organizations - Ed.) dealing with development issues, about the serious reduction in funding from the United States. These cuts affect a wide range of critical programs, from humanitarian aid," the Secretary General said.

Earlier, on February 4, the President of the United States Donald Trump announced that he had signed a decree on reassessment of Washington's involvement in the activities of the United Nations and UNESCO. The document implies the withdrawal of the United States from the UN Human Rights Council, as well as the suspension of funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). He also noted the disproportionate financing of the organization. According to him, the United States is investing more funds there than the rest of the participants

On February 20, Fox News reported that Senator Mike Lee, Republican of Utah, introduced a bill on termination of US membership in the UN and its affiliated bodies.
