The United States is facing a drain of technical personnel from the government due to massive cuts initiated by billionaire Elon Musk's Department of Public Efficiency (DOGE). This was reported on February 28 by the agency Bloomberg.

"Due to Elon Musk's efficiency department, the US government is experiencing an alarming drain of IT specialists. This risks leaving the country unprepared for any coming crisis," the article says.

In particular, the agency noted the difficult situation of the US Digital Technology Service (USDS), established in 2014. Then this service gathered the best technical specialists from all over the country. The USDS has significantly improved the operation of government services and developed an effective system for registering for vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In early February 2025, about 40 USDS employees were laid off, and later 21 more employees resigned due to the fact that they began to be "interrogated." Thus, journalists believe, the progress that the agency has been making for years will now slow down.

"Under President Donald Trump and Musk, the USDS is now falling apart," Bloomberg emphasized.

Also on the verge of closure is the newly established Artificial Intelligence Security Institute (AISI) with almost 500 jobs. The organization was created by the efforts of former US President Joe Biden to oversee the development of AI in the country. The Institute also worked with several other countries to coordinate research projects that "may now remain unfinished."

"If AISI is dissolved,..> This is <...> could damage international relations on AI security issues," the article says.

Earlier, on February 26, Musk stated that he is being threatened with violence because of his work on reducing government spending. At the same time, he stressed that if the country does not act on financial issues, bankruptcy threatens.

Wired magazine reported on February 25 that DOGE engineers are working on software that would help dismiss government employees. According to the newspaper, everything points to a new round of large-scale layoffs of officials.

February 20 federal judge allowed the administration of the President of the United States to continue mass layoffs. According to him, the lawsuits should be filed with the Federal Office of Labor Relations.
