A resident of the Eastern Administrative District is awaiting trial for the death of a man in an accident on the Chita – Khabarovsk highway

In the Khabarovsk Territory, the investigation of a criminal case against a motorist from the Jewish Autonomous Region who fell asleep at the wheel and caused a fatal accident has been completed. This was reported by the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The accident occurred in December 2024 on the Chita–Khabarovsk federal highway. According to police, a 43-year-old resident of the Eastern Administrative District, driving his father's Toyota Corolla Fielder, lost control, drove into oncoming traffic and crashed into a Nissan Kix. As the motorist later explained, he fell asleep at the wheel.

As a result of the collision, a 51-year-old Nissan passenger received various injuries, from which he died at the scene, writes IA AmurMedia.

The investigation of the criminal case under Part 3 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of a person" has been completed. The materials were submitted to the Krasnoflotsky District Court of Khabarovsk for consideration on the merits.

The maximum sanction of this article provides for up to five years in prison.

Earlier in February, it was reported that the Soviet-Havana City Court ruled the verdict of a 72-year-old resident of the village of Zavety Ilyich, who, driving a crossover, did not yield to a moped. As a result, two 12-year-old boys were injured.
