If an automaker indicates in the service book that it is recommended to use certain brand oils in a particular car, all this is just a marketing ploy. This was stated by Roman Sokuev, head of the Sintec Lubricants Technical Expertise Center, Rossiyskaya Gazeta February 28.

"In fact, this is a marketing ploy by manufacturers of lubricants to increase sales of their products, since antitrust laws in most countries prohibit the imposition of products from a particular manufacturer on consumers," Sokuev explained.

When selecting engine oil, you should focus on the properties recommended by the automaker and the specified tolerances. The service book specifies the requirements for the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) viscosity class and the operational category of various international classifications (for example, API (American Petroleum Institute), the specialist explained.

The day before, auto expert Nikita Rodionov said that after the winter period it is important to check all technical fluids, he noted, since engine oil is recommended in Russian operating conditions change more often than specified in the manual under standard conditions. With a winter mileage of over 7-8 thousand km, it needs to be replaced.

Auto expert Igor Serebryakov said on February 7 that, according to a number of studies, using gasoline with a higher octane rating (for example, AI-98 instead of AI-92) can increase power by about 7%, and fuel consumption can decrease by about 6%. However, the use of fuel with a higher octane rating than recommended by the manufacturer, href="https://iz.ru/1835351/2025-02-07/avtoekspert-obiasnil-vozmozhnyi-vred-benzina-ai-98-dlia-motora " target="_blank">can cause serious damage to the engine, he warned.
