The criminal case of a particularly large bribe against the former head of the Main Communications Directorate of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin, has been sent to court to be considered on its merits. This was announced on February 28 by the Main Military Investigation Directorate (GVSU) of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

"The criminal case with the indictment has been sent to the Moscow Garrison Military Court for consideration on its merits," the agency said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

Investigators of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Investigative Committee of Russia have collected enough evidence of Shamarin's guilt in accepting bribes on a particularly large scale while fulfilling the state defense order. He was charged under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

According to the investigation, in 2019-2023, the Russian Ministry of Defense signed a contract with JSC Perm Telephone Plant Telta to fulfill the state defense order. The company was supposed to supply communication devices worth over 1.4 billion rubles. At that time, Shamarin received 36 million rubles in bribes from Telta officials in order to increase the volume of products supplied and their cost.

As part of the trial, the court seized the Lieutenant General's property - a car, an apartment and an amount of money that is equal to a bribe. Shamarin was taken into custody at the request of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, on January 17, Shamarin's lawyer Mikhail Pertsev reported that the preliminary investigation into the Lieutenant General's case is over, and the defense is reviewing the materials.

The former head of the Main Communications Directorate of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was detained on May 22, 2024. According to the investigation, Shamarin received a bribe from the CEO and chief accountant of Telta. The general was removed from office Deputy Chief of the General Staff and Head of the Main Directorate of Communications of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

In early August, Shamarin partially admitted guilt, although the defense insisted that the money received by the Lieutenant General was not a bribe.

Later, on November 13, the court announced that Shamarin entered into a pre-trial agreement and pleaded guilty. Nevertheless, the Lieutenant General was kept in custody, and this measure of restraint was repeatedly extended.
