President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko was outraged by the rise in price of local potatoes in the country, the price of which increased by 10% in the first two months of 2025. He stated this on February 28 at a meeting on price regulation.

The Belarusian leader demanded an urgent regulation of pricing and the "expulsion" of all those involved in the cost increase.

"We need to kick the hell out of these executives. We can't produce enough potatoes. Prices for potatoes have jumped by 10% in two months. Can't we produce the right amount of potatoes, put them in the cellar and then sell them to the public?" — the agency quotes him as saying "BelTA".

Lukashenko asked the government if it had become more profitable to import potatoes than to grow your own at home. Adding that such a pricing policy is not "regulation", but "corruption".

According to Belstat, potatoes in Belarus rose in price by 31.2% in 2024. Now, on average, it costs 2.2 Belarusian rubles (about 60 Russian rubles) per kg.

Earlier, on January 22, it was reported that Belarus href="https://iz.ru/1827208/2025-01-22/belorussiia-sokhraniaet-liderstvo-v-postavkakh-zhivotnovodcheskoi-produktcii-v-rf"> It retains leadership in the supply of livestock products and potatoes to Russia. Most of the cultivated areas in the republic are occupied by cereals and vegetables. Agriculture accounts for only 8-9% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of Belarus, but the harvest volumes nevertheless turn out to be large.
