Every tenth taxi company in the Russian Federation has declared the risk of closure

By the end of 2024, 10% of Russian taxi companies are considering the possibility of business liquidation. On March 3, Izvestia was informed by the Public Council for Taxi Development, which summed up the results of the all-Russian survey of carriers.
According to the survey, another 48% of carriers said that their profits only slightly exceed their costs. 28% ended the year with a loss, and only 14% with a steady profit.
The Public Council said that the difficulties slowing down the development of the entire industry include difficulties in processing documents for obtaining permits (including registration in the register and obtaining certificates), which takes a long time, as well as the high cost of updating the fleet and increasing maintenance costs
The shortage of drivers is also getting worse, and frequent changes in the regulatory framework create uncertainty, hindering business planning and stable operation, experts said. Business is concerned about legislative initiatives to regulate the taxi industry (26 such initiatives were introduced in 2024), the organization said.
According to Irina Zaripova, chairman of the Public Council for Taxi Development, taxi companies need comprehensive support measures, including affordable financing and flexibility in choosing cars, otherwise the industry will face large-scale consequences for passengers and businesses.
"Today, businesses do not have an understanding of further steps in terms of government regulation. The business does not know whether the requirements for taxi services will be tightened in the future or whether the measures already taken are sufficient. Therefore, in the current economic situation and in the absence of a development strategy, it is extremely difficult for the taxi business to make decisions about the development and scaling of its companies," Zaripova stressed.
Earlier that day, the Public Council for Taxi Development stated that if in 2023 70% of carriers reported a shortage of personnel, href="https://iz.ru/1846727/2025-03-03/v-taksi-zaiavili-o-defitcite-voditelei-i-nekhvatke-sredstv-na-avto " target="_blank">then in 2024 this indicator increased to 77%. Taxi companies also faced a shortage of funds for the purchase of new cars, as all financial resources are directed to cover the increased costs of maintaining, repairing and operating an existing fleet.
On February 21, during a press conference at the Izvestia News Center on the topic "Major changes in the taxi market," Artem Kiryanov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, said that the cost of the trip in a taxi next it may grow by 15-20% this year.
