The State Duma Committee approved new rules for passing the OGE for schoolchildren from 12 regions

On February 28, the State Duma Committee on Education approved amendments to the second reading of the draft law on new rules for passing the Basic State Exam (OGE), according to which schoolchildren in 12 regions of the country will have to score a minimum score on the exam to move to 10th grade.

The bill, which was considered in the first reading, extended to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov and Tyumen regions, as well as the Republic of North Ossetia — Alania. The amendments add the Kemerovo, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov Regions, Kamchatka and Krasnodar Territories and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug to this list.

"Admission to educational programs of secondary general education <...> is carried out on the basis of individual selection based on the results of the state final certification of educational programs of basic general education in four academic subjects (two compulsory subjects and two other elective subjects)" according to a document recommended by the committee from legislative database.

At the same time, the minimum score will be set by each subject of the Russian Federation separately.

In addition, in 2025, those who do not achieve the required minimum of OGE points for admission to the 10th grade will receive preferential admission to colleges in their region at the expense of the regional budget.

Lower House of Parliament adopted in the first reading a bill on new rules for passing the BGE on February 12. The document suggests conducting an experiment in several regions of the Russian Federation to expand the availability of vocational education. Students will be able to enroll in colleges after completing only two compulsory subjects — Russian and mathematics. The minimum points for admission will be determined by the regions themselves.
