As a result of 64 accidents, 29 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 35 outside their area of operation, five pedestrians were killed, and 61 more were injured in various degrees of severity.
So, in Nizhny Novgorod in the evening, an inexperienced 19-year-old driver, whose driving experience does not exceed three months, drove a carsharing car into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, followed by leaving the road and hitting a public transport stop, as well as two female pedestrians born in 1958 and 1968. After that, the vehicle responsible for the car accident overturned on the roadway and crashed into a parked passenger car without a driver. As a result of the accident, both women died, the driver of the carsharing car and his three passengers were hospitalized with injuries.
On Thursday, 10 bus accidents were recorded, in which there were no dead people, but 14 road users were injured. Eight bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles. 37 accidents involving minors have been registered over the past day, as a result of which 41 young road users were injured, including 18 pedestrians and 23 passengers. On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers in the conditions of the first days of spring with still unstable "winter" weather to slow down in advance and increase the distance to the vehicles ahead, as well as to abandon frequent lane changes, avoid sudden maneuvers and overtaking, strictly comply with traffic regulations related to the start of traffic, lane changes, turns, U-turns and stops.. Not only the life and health of drivers, but also passengers and other road users depend on compliance with all these basic measures of motor vehicle safety, the department stressed.
"The life and health of their passengers depend entirely on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior on the road of the person behind the wheel. Always leave yourself plenty of time to react adequately to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment. We also draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for transporting children. Take care of your young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and prevention of child traffic injuries at the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry, told Izvestia.
The day before, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at a government meeting that it was planned to begin evaluating the quality of education in Russian driving schools href="https://iz.ru/1846073/2025-02-27/kachestvo-avtoshkol-nachnut-otcenivat-po-chislu-dtp-u-vypusknikov " target="_blank">including the number of accidents among their graduates. According to him, driving schools must take into account a number of mandatory requirements, and for this the Cabinet of Ministers proposes to adjust the current legislation.
