Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu, at a meeting with the head of the Office of the CPC Central Committee for Foreign Affairs, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, noted the consonance of the approaches of the two countries.

"I would like to emphasize that I arrived in hospitable China on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin following his telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping on February 24. The fact that our meeting was agreed upon in such a short time testifies to the special nature of the bilateral dialogue," he said in his welcoming speech on February 28.

According to Shoigu, both states stand in solidarity within the framework of the United Nations and its Security Council, the Group of Twenty (G20), APEC and other structures.

"We are grateful to China for supporting Russia's BRICS presidency last year. For our part, we will assist our Chinese partners in their work as chairman of the SCO this year," the Secretary of the Security Council stressed.

On the same day Shoigu arrives in Beijing to meet with Xi Jinping and Wang Yi. The Security Council stressed that Russian-Chinese relations are in the nature of a strategic partnership.

Shoigu's previous visit to China took place on November 12, 2024. In Beijing, he held a meeting with Wang Yi, where strategic security issues were discussed. During the meeting, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council stressed that Russia intends to continue cooperation with China on issues of the international and regional agenda.
