The area of a forest fire in Japan has doubled


The area of a forest fire in Iwate Prefecture in Japan has doubled. This was reported on February 28 by the Japanese agency Kyodo with reference to local authorities.
On the third day, the area of the forest fire in the city of Ofunato in Iwate Prefecture doubled and reached 1,200 hectares, the publication said. The Fire Department and Self-Defense Forces have increased their readiness to extinguish the fire from the ground and from the air.
According to the prefectural authorities, the number of helicopters involved in extinguishing the fire has been increased to 16 (previously it was 10). The number of large self-defense force helicopters with high irrigation capacity has been increased to four (previously there were two). In addition, the number of residents who have been ordered to evacuate has increased by a third, to 3306 people.
The agency also reported that on February 27, the burned body of a man was found, presumably killed in a fire.
February 26 three fires were recorded in Iwate Prefecture in the Akasaki-te-Gozoku area of the city of Ofunato, in the Koji areas and the Takhama of Ayasato City and Sanriku City. As a result of the fire, more than 600 hectares were burned out, while 84 houses were damaged. More than 2 thousand people received recommendations for evacuation.
