The American leader Donald Trump intends to radically reduce the staff of the State Department USA. This was reported on February 27 by the Politico with reference to sources.

"Trump wants to radically reduce the State Department, leaving it with fewer diplomats, fewer embassies and narrower responsibilities," the publication says.

It is clarified that, most likely, after the cuts, the department will work in the areas of concluding transactional government agreements, ensuring American security and encouraging investments by other states in the United States.

According to the publication, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio agreed with the idea of closing a significant number of embassies. At the moment, it is unknown which of them will fall under the reduction. Consulates in Rennes, Lyon, Strasbourg and Bordeaux in France, Dusseldorf, Leipzig and Hamburg in Germany, Florence in Italy, Ponta Delgada in Portugal, and Belo Horizonte in Brazil may cease their work, the sources said.

Wired magazine reported on February 25 that DOGE engineers are working working on software that would help dismiss government employees. According to the newspaper, everything points to a new round of large-scale layoffs of officials.

February 20 federal judge allowed the administration of the President of the United States to continue mass layoffs. According to him, the lawsuits should be filed with the Federal Office of Labor Relations.
