Independent Romanian presidential candidate Calin Georgescu said on February 27 that his detention after winning the annulled first round of the presidential election was planned in advance.

"Why didn't they do it last December? Why now? After a while, two months later. This is all absolute nonsense... I realized that everything was calculated, everything was a plan... everything was planned earlier," he said in an interview with American blogger Mario Naufalu, the entry was posted on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

On February 26, Georgescu was taken to the prosecutor's office for questioning. According to media reports, the Romanian presidential candidate is accused of involvement in an alleged fascist organization and falsifying statements about sources of financing for the election campaign.

In turn, the head of the Federation Council Commission on information policy, Alexei Pushkov, said that the Romanian authorities are trying their best remove Georgescu from the election because they are afraid of him. According to him, the accusations against the independent candidate for Romanian leadership are far-fetched.

Repeated elections will be held in Romania on May 4. The second round is scheduled for May 18.
