Dodon stated that Moldova is unable to legally close the Russian House in Chisinau.
The Moldovan authorities, who announced plans to close the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC, Russian House) in Chisinau, will not be legally able to do this. This was announced on February 27 by former head of state Igor Dodon.
"That is, legally it is almost impossible to do this [to close the Russian House]. <..."I don't think they've even started to figure it out legally. They were told to make a statement, and they did. And now they are thinking how to do it. I think nothing will work out for them," he said in an interview TASS.
According to him, the current Moldovan authorities are basically incompetent in their approach to international documents.
"But when I heard that they want to cancel the strategic partnership agreement of 2001..."where the guarantees for the Transnistrian settlement are clearly spelled out — in addition to the strategic partnership, it was written that Russia is the guarantor of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and the guarantor of the 5+2 format, I didn't understand anything at all then. It's a madhouse," Dodon said.
On February 13, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry announced that unilaterally расторг agreement with the Russian Federation on the establishment and operation of cultural centers. It was clarified that this decision is due to the fact that the Russian Federation allegedly violates the sovereignty of Moldova. On that day, Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Ozerov was summoned to the republic's Foreign Ministry because of reports from local police about the downing of two drones, which the republic called allegedly Russian.
The Russian Diplomatic Mission in Moldova stated that the closure of the RCSC is a cynical step by the authorities, which demonstrates the indifference of the elites to the interests and needs of the citizens of the republic.
