The trial of the French who attacked the Consulate General of the Russian Federation has begun in Marseille.

On Thursday, February 27, a court hearing began in Marseille in the case of two Frenchmen who attacked the Consulate General of the Russian Federation.

Two French citizens, aged 48 and 59, appeared before the court. The day before, the defendants admitted their guilt. The city prosecutor's office reported that both detainees are employees They are from the National Center for Scientific Research and have French citizenship.

In turn, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Marseille, Stanislav Oransky, said RIA Novosti that one of the defendants is married to a Ukrainian woman. The defendants are charged under articles "damage or damage to other people's property in a manner dangerous to people," as well as "unauthorized manufacture of explosive or incendiary devices or explosive articles."

The explosion in Marseille occurred on February 24. It was clarified that unknown persons threw three explosive bottles into the territory of the diplomatic mission, two of them exploded. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted that the explosions on the territory of the Consulate General were all signs of a terrorist attack. She demanded that France, as the country of accreditation, take prompt and comprehensive measures to investigate the incident.

On February 25, Oransky announced that the Consulate General works normally, and clarified that Paris does not respond to requests Moscow to strengthen the security measures of Russian diplomatic missions.
