Javier Dorado, the winner of the Champions League with Real Madrid, has died.

Former Real Madrid defender Javier Dorado has died at the age of 48. This was announced on February 27 by the press service of the Spanish Sporting club from Gijon on the official site.

"Real Sporting of Gijón expresses its condolences over the passing of former player Javier Dorado Bielsa, who passed away on Thursday, February 27, at the age of 48," the statement said.

According to Spanish radio Cadena SER, Dorado was fighting cancer.

Javier Dorado started his football career at Real Madrid. Together with the club, the footballer won the Champions League in 2000.

Later, in 2001, he joined Sporting from Gijón. In total, the defender spent four seasons in Gijón, playing 152 official matches and scoring two goals. He also played in the national team until 2021.
