Pickup truck sales in Russia set a historical record

Russia has set a historical record for sales of new pickups for the year. By the end of last year, 29.2 thousand such cars were sold in the country, with an annual increase of 65%. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this on February 27 in his Telegram channel.
"This was not the case even in the "super successful" 200-2008 and 2012-2014 years, when the market was aiming for the 3 million mark. Pickups were then sold a little more — 25 thousand. And here, with a total volume of "one and a half and a half" — almost 30 thousand pieces, that is, about 2% of the market!"— said Tselikov.
Last year, Russians most often bought pickups from Great Wall Motor, which managed to sell 4,722 copies of Poer and 2,143 copies of Poer KingKong. The top five brands also included JAC, UAZ, Changan and Sollers.
At the same time, according to Tselikov, 350 thousand pickups are registered in Russia, and every fourth of them (25.6%) is a Toyota Hilux, most of them with a right-hand drive. Almost every fifth (19.7%) is a Mitsubishi L200, and every seventh (13.5%) is a UAZ Pickup truck.
Earlier in the day, Sinomach Auto Concern announced prices for the new Oting Palasso hardtop pickup, which will be the first with a factory hardtop in its segment in the Russian market. In a modification with a manual transmission, the car will cost from 4 million rubles, and with an automatic transmission — from 4.34 million rubles.
On February 25, auto expert Alexander Korotkov said that the demand for pickups in Russia is gradually growing, largely due to the advent of affordable Chinese models. If earlier this segment was represented mainly by expensive Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi L200, now interesting "Chinese" alternatives are offered. However, later models from China appeared on the secondary market with this type of body may be illiquid, he warned.
