- The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed hope for strengthening trust with the United States at the talks in Istanbul.

Russia expects that negotiations with The United States in Istanbul on the issue of embassies and further expert consultations will help build trust between the two countries. This was announced on February 27 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
According to her, previous White House teams purposefully created obstacles for the Russian embassy in Washington, damaging the very structure of bilateral relations. However, it is obvious to the new US leadership that this cannot continue, the diplomat added.
"We hope that today's meeting will be the first in a series of such expert consultations that will bring us and the American side closer to overcoming the differences that have arisen and strengthening confidence—building measures," the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said at a briefing.
At the same time, Zakharova noted that in a relationship Moscow and Washington still have irritants created by the destructive course of previous American administrations.
Negotiations on the operation of embassies between Russia and the United States started in Istanbul on the same day. Speaking about this meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed the hope that following the results of the contacts it would become clear to what extent both sides "will be able to move quickly and effectively" in resolving pressing issues.
On February 21, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the need for the United States and Russia to establish diplomatic relations, as well as to conduct a dialogue between States. In his opinion, this interaction is necessary not only to discuss global issues, but also to resolve situations related to the security of countries.
