The main criteria for choosing housing among Russians were cost (49%) and developed infrastructure (40%) — the proximity of shops, schools, kindergartens and medical institutions. Transport accessibility (36%), proximity to work or study (28%), and the social environment and neighborhood (28%) also play a significant role. This is stated in the results of developer PIK, which were reviewed by Izvestia on February 28.

At the same time, the choice of an area for buying an apartment is most often made jointly with a partner, 58% of respondents answered this way. However, 14% of Russians would prefer to entrust the final decision to their significant other. At the same time, 41% of respondents said they were ready to give up their housing preferences for a partner.

In addition, such a process is rarely accompanied by serious disagreements. Almost half of Russians (49%) made the decision about the place of residence easily and without disputes. Another 32% noted that they had discussed this issue with their partner without conflict, while 19% admitted that they had encountered disagreements.

Experts also found that women are more likely to be willing to buy good housing even in a remote area (43%), while men prefer a lower-quality apartment in a prestigious area (47%).

In addition, it turned out that Russian families are more likely to make decisions about repairs together (38%). But 34% of men are convinced that they accept them alone, while 30% of women chose this option. Speaking about the interior, 39% of respondents admitted that they had faced conflicts, but were able to find a compromise, and 19% reported serious disagreements in the couple on this issue.

Earlier, on February 5, it was reported that almost half of the Russians surveyed somehow linked their plans in 2025 with the solution of the housing issue. At the same time, 12% plan to start saving and save money to buy a home. This is stated in the research results of the Level Group company.
