Until March 2, the Earth will be under the influence of a coronal hole in the Sun, which can cause magnetic storms. This was reported on February 27 on on the website of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to scientists, two large coronal holes are observed on the Sun, which alternately appear opposite the Earth once a month, causing an increase in the solar wind. Currently, the planet is under the influence of the lesser of them.

"Now the Earth has been overtaken by a stream of fast solar wind from the second hole, which is smaller in area than the first: Accordingly, the consequences are also expected to be moderate. For the next two days, the probability of magnetic storms is in the range of 20-40%, that is, less than half," the laboratory said in a statement.

Two flares were recorded on the Sun on February 14. They were assigned to the penultimate power class, M1.2.
