The policy of the European Commission (EC), headed by Ursula von der Leyen, has a detrimental effect on the economy of the European Union (EU). This was announced on February 27 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"The Brussels bureaucracy is killing the European economy: sanctions against Russia, tariffs against the Chinese electric vehicle industry and a complete inability to negotiate with the United States," he wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

Szijjarto also described the EC members as "cowards", pointing to their criticism of the president USA Donald's Trump and the current fear of meeting him.

In addition, he stressed that the EU could reach an agreement with Washington if it reduced duties on the sale of American cars in Europe from 10% to 2.5%. However, no such steps have been taken.

On February 20, it was reported that von der Leyen is centralizing its power and resorting to increasingly brutal methods of leadership. She and her advisers, mostly from Germany, tightly control all communications within the bloc.

Prior to that, on February 12, the leader of the French National Unification Party, Jordan Bardella, stated that von der Leyen href="https://iz.ru/1838023/2025-02-12/vo-frantcii-ulichili-fon-der-liaien-v-prevrashchenii-evropy-v-ad-dlia-investitcii"> She turned Europe into a "hell where it is a nightmare to invest". The politician noted that in the last five years, the head of the EC had been working with the French Parliament's committee on European affairs, which was "a living hell for business."
