- The Bulgarian MP pointed out the inaction of Brussels in relation to the poor countries of the EU

The political elite in Brussels has not done anything good for the poor countries of the European Union (EU), and many Bulgarian citizens do not see the point in the state remaining part of it. Ivan Petkov, a member of the Bulgarian Parliament and a member of the energy committee, told Izvestia about this on February 27.
"I feel that the European Union is falling apart because the political elite in Brussels has not done anything good for the poor countries of the European Union. Our country has a lot of problems. <...> We had no funds from the European Union. And many people said: "Well, why are we staying in the European Union? It doesn't give us any advantages," he explained.
According to Petkov, many citizens left the country after the collapse of the USSR, and another wave of emigration occurred after Bulgaria joined the European Union. Also, a lot of young people have recently left for EU countries. As the deputy noted, their parents are happy that the children have improved their quality of life financially, but the connection between them has "already been severed."
In July last year, the independent MP Martin Sonneborn said that the responsibility for the growth of inequality and poverty in the European Union is borne by the European People's Party (EPP), which holds the majority of seats in the European Parliament. He said that since the EU began collecting statistics, poverty has been stable at 25%, the middle class is eroding, the poor are getting poorer, and social inequality continues to grow.
