Deal USA and Ukraine may find it unprofitable in terms of minerals due to outdated data on resource reserves. This was reported on February 26 by the Politico.

According to the publication, estimates of Ukrainian deposits are based on Soviet-era data that do not take into account the profitability of development. Although more than 20 thousand explored deposits are registered in the country, only about 8 thousand are considered promising.

In addition, due to technical difficulties and high costs, the extraction of rare earths in Ukraine may be unprofitable.

Earlier, on February 23, the British newspaper Financial Times reported that the Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky at a meeting with the head of the US Treasury, Scott Bessent, when discussing the rare earth metals deal, "was very angry" between the parties there was a conflict. It is clarified that the President of Ukraine rejected Bessent's claim that partnership with the United States in the field of mining would strengthen Ukraine's security.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump has stated that he is going to to demand from Ukraine not only rare earth minerals, but also oil, as well as "everything that can be obtained." He said that the European Union has the opportunity to get the money back, while the United States does not.
