Moscow court fined WhatsApp 17 million rubles

Tagansky District Court Moscow has fined WhatsApp messenger (owned by Meta Corporation, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) 17 million rubles for violating the law on personal data. This was reported on February 27 in the Telegram channel of the courts of general jurisdiction of the capital.

It is clarified that the messenger was found guilty under Part 9 of Article 13.11 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of personal data"),

"By the decision of the Tagansky District Court of Moscow, an administrative penalty was imposed in the form of an administrative fine in the amount of 17 million rubles", — stated in the message.

On February 12, the World court in Moscow fined WhatsApp 500 thousand rubles for non-compliance with the rules of activity in Russia. It clarifies that sanctions are provided for repeated failure by the organizer of the dissemination of information on the Internet (this list includes, among others, social networks and messengers) to notify the authorities of the start of their activities.
