The European Union (EU) against the background of the president's statements USA Donald Trump's readiness to impose customs duties on the EU calls for an open dialogue with Washington in the field of trade, and recommends that countries not work "against each other." This was announced on February 27 by the representative of the European Commission (EC) Olof Gilles.

"We must work together to preserve all opportunities for our people and businesses. Not against each other. Europe stands for dialogue, openness and reciprocity. We are ready for partnership if the game goes according to the rules," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Gill pointed out that the volume of transatlantic trade is $1.5 trillion per year. This is because American companies have been able to invest and earn substantial revenues in the European market.

"The EU is a large, single market that is good for business. It is also a key factor contributing to the transatlantic trade in goods and services, which amounts to more than $1.5 trillion per year, the largest bilateral trade and investment relationship in the world," the EC representative explained.

Earlier, on February 26, Trump announced that the United States href="https://iz.ru/1845696/2025-02-26/tramp-anonsiroval-vvedenie-poshlin-ssha-v-25-na-tovary-iz-evrosoiuza " target="_blank">customs duties of 25% will be imposed on the European Union not only on cars, but also on "everything else." According to the president, the EU does not accept American cars, and also puts pressure on the States.

At the same time, the EC press service reported that the EU intends in the near future href="https://iz.ru/1845771/2025-02-27/v-evrosoiuze-namereny-nemedlenno-otvetit-na-obeshchannye-trampom-poshliny " target="_blank">resolutely respond to Trump's promised duties of 25%. They clarified that the European Union is the largest global market, which could become the "biggest success" for the United States.
