At least 84 houses were damaged as a result of a forest fire in the Japanese prefecture of Iwate. This was reported on February 27 by the TV channel NHK with reference to data from local authorities.
According to the newspaper, on Wednesday, February 26, three fires were recorded in the Akasaki-te-Gozoku area of the city of Ofunato, in the Koji and Takhama areas of the city of Ayasato and in the city of Sanriku.
More than two thousand people received recommendations for evacuation. 584 people were admitted to evacuation centers and social shelters. As a result of the fire, more than 600 hectares were burned out, the TV channel said. Law enforcement agencies establish information about the presence of victims.
"At first I thought it was a small fire, but when I saw orange flames near my house, I evacuated," said a 67-year-old woman living in the Ishihama area.
