After a five-hour interrogation at the Prosecutor General's Office, independent Romanian presidential candidate Calin Georgescu confirmed his intention to run in the presidential elections in May. This was reported on February 26 by the agency Agerpres.

"I will definitely run for the presidential election. We, the people, are a force, we are Romania. We will not kneel in any form," the agency quoted Georgescu as saying.

The politician is confident that the whole world is watching what is happening in Romania after the cancellation of the second round of presidential elections on January 6. He believes that the government has rendered a service to the opposition, as it has revealed political corruption with vote-rigging.

"This position has shown that the system is working as long as it can. But it's in the final stages. But we know for sure that it's not just about local servants (he pointed to the building of the Prosecutor General's Office. — Ed.). This is also related to what is happening in Brussels right now. But this corruption at the global level will be exposed, and the sanctions The United States will clarify the situation in Romania as well," Georgescu summed up.

On February 26, the Romanian Prosecutor General's Office put forward six charges against Georgescu. He is accused, among other things, of calling for action against the constitutional order of the country, spreading false information, as well as providing false declarations on the sources of financing the election campaign. On the same day, Georgescu taken to the prosecutor's office for questioning.

In turn, the head of the Federation Council Commission on information policy, Alexei Pushkov, said that the Romanian authorities are trying their best remove Georgescu from the election because they are afraid of him. According to him, the accusations against the independent candidate for Romanian leadership are far-fetched.
