More than 40 species of animals will be added to the Red Book of Crimea

New edition of the Red Book Crimea will be replenished with 43 species of animals. At the same time, 16 species will leave the list of rare and endangered.

According to the senior lecturer of the Department of Geoecology of the Taurida Academy of the KFU named after Vernadsky Grigory Prokopov, scientists analyze the results of monitoring that has been carried out in the republic over the past ten years. On its basis, the lists of rare animals were formed. In total, 397 species will be included in the Red Book, writes IA SevastopolMedia with a link to Radio Crimea.

In addition, experts have prescribed several dozen endemic species of animals. These are species that are found only on the peninsula. These are mainly cave endemics — false scorpions, millipedes, woodlice.

At the beginning of 2025 in the Red Book of Moscow 573 species of animals, plants and fungi were added. The publication prescribes measures to protect rare representatives of flora and fauna.
