Authorities Ukraine is going to tighten mobilization against the background of statements by the US president Donald Trump on the need for an early settlement of the conflict. This was reported on February 26 by the magazine The Economist with reference to Ukrainian sources.

"The tightening [of mobilization] will continue. "...No one has come up with a better solution," a senior Ukrainian official said in an interview with the magazine.

As stated in the article, such a prospect "risks splitting an already exhausted country," as well as provoking "even more violence against conscript officers."

Nevertheless, the magazine recalled that earlier the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced the start of recruiting men from 18 to 24 years old for contract service. According to the source, the Ukrainian authorities hope that at least 4 thousand people will come to military service every month according to this scheme. One of the European officials told the newspaper that Kiev may also have to cancel the reservation from mobilization for some categories of workers in order to continue fighting.

Earlier, on February 24, Trump announced his progress in negotiation process between Russia and The United States on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, the negotiations are going "very well."
