The IOC has agreed to accept Bach's resignation as president of the organization.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has accepted Thomas Bach's resignation as head of the organization. This was reported on February 26 on on the IOC website.

"The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee today agreed to accept the resignation of IOC President Thomas Bach from his post as an IOC member, which will take effect after June 23, 2025," the statement said.

They noted that on the specified day, Bach's powers will be transferred to the new president of the organization, who will be elected on March 20.

Thomas Bach is 70 years old, he was first elected a member of the committee in 1991, and five years later he joined the IOC Executive Committee. On September 10, 2013, Bach was elected president of the organization, and he was re-elected in 2021.

The head of the IOC is the 1976 Olympic champion in the foil fencing team competition.

Earlier, on August 10, 2024, the President of the IOC during the 142nd session of the organization stated that is not going to be re-elected. According to him, it is necessary to observe the high management standards that have been set.
