The Romanian Prosecutor General's Office has filed six charges against independent presidential candidate Calin Georgescu. This was reported on February 26 by the agency Adheres.

It is noted that he is accused of calling for action against the constitutional order of Romania, spreading false information, as well as providing false declarations on the sources of financing the election campaign.

In addition, Georgescu was charged with creating an organization with a "fascist, racist or xenophobic orientation," public propaganda of persons guilty of genocide and war crimes, public propaganda of fascist, legionary, racist or xenophobic ideas, as well as involvement in the creation of an anti-Semitic organization, joining it or supporting it.

"Georgescu has been placed under judicial control by prosecutors for a period of 60 days. He will be allowed to return home, but some restrictions will be imposed," the agency said.

On February 26, Georgescu was taken to the prosecutor's office for questioning. According to media reports, the Romanian presidential candidate is accused of involvement in a fascist organization and falsifying statements about the sources of financing for the election campaign.

In turn, the head of the Federation Council Commission on information policy, Alexei Pushkov, said that the Romanian authorities are trying their best remove Georgescu from the election because they are afraid of him. According to him, the accusations against the independent candidate for Romanian leadership are far-fetched.
