Agency The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has spent about $2 million from American taxpayers on custom-made designer carpets in Kiev. This was reported on Wednesday, February 26, by the American magazine The Federalist with a link to the report.

"Designers, including the custom carpet manufacturer, which received about $2 million, and two different furniture lines, which received $114,000 and $91,000 dollars, respectively, also joined the [USAID] financial rush," the publication says.

So, the magazine cites data from the team of American Senator Joni Ernst. During her investigation, she discovered a number of agency grants that were funded by American taxes.

In addition to designer carpets, USAID allocated $300,000 to a "pet tracking application," about $300,000 to a "dog collar manufacturer," and about $109,000 more to a "pet food packaging manufacturer."

In addition, money from the pockets of American taxpayers was used by "fashionistas," the magazine writes. In particular, women's clothing companies, fashion photographers, a "supplier of modern knitwear", a "luxury brand for newlyweds", a "marketplace for handmade designer products" and a "sales representative of a fashion design house" received financing in the amount of $733 thousand.

It clarifies that USAID justified the grants by strengthening the economy Ukraine by increasing sales of the Ukrainian market. However, in fact, the Americans financed vacations for Ukrainian businessmen at fashion weeks in European capitals.

Earlier in the day, Marina Tauber, a member of the Moldovan parliament and vice chairman of the bloc of opposition parties Pobeda, sent an appeal to the leader of the US Department of Public Efficiency (DOGE), businessman Ilon Mask, with a request to disclose who in the republic received href="https://iz.ru/1845506/2025-02-26/oppozitciia-moldavii-poprosila-ssha-raziasnit-uchastie-usaid-v-podderzhke-sandu"> funds from USAID.

On February 3, Musk announced launching the USAID liquidation process. The businessman noted that the agency is not subject to restoration and it needs to be closed.
