Musk called the detention of Romanian presidential candidate Georgescu a mess.

American entrepreneur and head of the government's Efficiency improvement department USA (DOGE) Elon Musk condemned and called the detention of independent Romanian presidential candidate Calin Georgescu a complete mess. On February 26, he wrote about this on his page on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

"They just detained the person who won the most votes in the Romanian presidential election. It's a complete mess," Musk said.

Earlier in the day Georgescu was taken to the prosecutor's office for questioning. According to media reports, the Romanian presidential candidate is accused of involvement in a fascist organization and falsifying statements about the sources of financing for the election campaign.

On February 22, a rally in support of Georgescu was held in Bucharest. On that day, Mihai Enake, the leader of the deputies of the right-wing Alliance for the Unification of Romanians party, announced that the Romanian opposition had gathered href="https://iz.ru/1843435/2025-02-22/rumynskaa-oppozicia-sobrala-svyse-200-tys-podpisei-za-dzordzesku " target="_blank">more than 200 thousand signatures in favor of the independent presidential candidate. Repeated elections will be held in Romania on May 4. The second round is scheduled for May 18.
