In In Crimea, Musya, the mascot of the Swallow's Nest Palace, was saved from death. She was thrown off the observation deck by a tourist, after which she spent three days on the rocks without food and water. Musya was examined by veterinarians, she is in stable condition. What is known about the incident with the animal is in the Izvestia article.

What happened to Musya

• On February 23, a video appeared on the Internet showing a man picking up a cat and walking with it for a while along the fence of the Swallow's Nest Palace near Yalta. At one point he threw the animal towards the Black Sea, and it flew off a 40-meter cliff on which stands an architectural monument.

• The injured pet turned out to be a live mascot of the palace named Musya. She has been living next to a popular attraction for the last 10 years and has been attracting tourists who came to admire the views from the cliff. According to the museum staff, Musya was not aggressive and got along well with the visitors.

• The incident with Musya caused a great resonance not only among animal lovers, but also many who are not indifferent to the fate of the pet. The museum staff organized a search for the cat, despite the fact that she had almost no chance of surviving after falling from a steep cliff into icy water.

How Musya was saved

• Volunteers joined the rescue of Musi. Due to the storm, it was not possible to inspect the rocks from the sea for the first two days. Only on the third day of the search, volunteers examined the shore from a boat and found the cat alive in one of the crevices 10 meters from the water. There she hid from the cold wind.

• It was impossible to get the animal from the sea — the volunteers could not climb the cliff from the boat. A team of climbers from the Crimean Rescue Ministry unit was called in to rescue her. The cat was easily given to rescuers, and she was calmly lifted to the ground in a carrier.

• After the rescue, Musya was sent to the veterinarians for examination. The animal was not injured, even its claws were intact, which indicates that it landed in the water and then climbed onto the rocks. However, the specialists conducted therapy to eliminate dehydration, inflammation and stress. Musya spent the first night after the rescue in a carrier, in which she was brought from the cliff.

• The story of Musya the cat has once again drawn attention to the problems faced by animals without owners. They are not only forced to survive in difficult conditions when they lack food and warmth, but they also run the risk of being treated harshly by humans. Many called Musi's rescue a miracle that does not happen to every pet. Izvestia talks about how the volunteers are trying to get as many pets out of trouble as possible in the photo gallery below.

What is known about the attacker

• Already on February 24, an attacker was detained in Dzhankoy, who threw the cat Musya off a cliff. It turned out to be a tourist from St. Petersburg named Dmitry. He said that he had come to Crimea by hitchhiking at the expense of friends. He himself does not work and is disabled. During the interrogation, he stated that he did not like the way Musya walked under his feet, and then began to struggle out of his hands.

• A criminal case was opened against the man under Part 1 of Article 245 ("Cruelty to animals"). He was placed in a medical hospital for 10 days. For the incident with Musya the cat, he faces imprisonment of up to three years. If it is determined that the suspect has used sadistic methods of treating an animal. The maximum penalty will be increased to five years.
