Rubio called the subsidization of some NATO allies by the United States unfair

The United States can no longer subsidize NATO allies who don't spend enough on defense. This statement was made on February 26 by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with Fox News.
According to him, the North Atlantic Alliance threatens the fact that the United States has NATO allies who have almost no armed forces or a sufficient number of effective military personnel. The Secretary of State clarified that these states have not spent money on defense for 40 years.
"Countries spend 1.5%-1% of their economies. We simply cannot continue to subsidize it. This is unfair and unsustainable," the US Secretary of State said.
At the same time, Rubio noted that this applies to "rich countries", in particular, Western Europe, which have sufficient resources to invest in national security.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said on February 19 that Europe should href="https://iz.ru/1841993/2025-02-20/premer-chekhii-fiala-vystupil-za-uvelichenie-evropeiskikh-investitcii-v-oboronu">" put "money on the table" and invest more in defense if countries want to be taken seriously.
In turn, the Financial Times newspaper reported that the EU authorities are considering the possibility of redistributing href="https://iz.ru/1841684/2025-02-19/smi-uznali-o-planakh-es-perenapravit-sredstva-ot-borby-s-pandemiei-na-oboronu">€93 billion for defense needs of unused funds initially allocated for recovery after the coronavirus pandemic.
