The man who beat his young stepson to death near Volgograd received 18 years in a penal colony

The Volgograd Regional Court sentenced to 18 years and two months in prison a 21-year-old man who beat his young stepson to death in order to take revenge on his common-law wife. This was announced on Wednesday, February 26, by the regional prosecutor's office.

"The court sentenced the person involved in the criminal case to 18 years and two months in prison, to be served in a high—security penal colony with subsequent restriction of liberty for one year," the agency said in a Telegram channel post.

The man was found guilty of committing crimes under paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code ("Murder of a minor or other person who is obviously helpless for the perpetrator, as well as involving kidnapping") and Part 2 of Article 116.1 of the Criminal Code ("Beatings by a person who has been subjected to administrative punishment or has criminal record).

The incident occurred on July 19th last year. The attacker inflicted 11 blows on a child aged one year and eight months while the baby's mother was not at home. It is specified that the defendant's actions were directed "in retaliation to the cohabitant." Doctors fought for the child's life, but as a result of his injuries, the boy died in the hospital the next morning.

The man fully admitted his guilt. The prosecutor's office added that the verdict has not yet entered into force and can be appealed.

Before that, on February 5, the Leningrad District Court of Kaliningrad I have placed under arrest for a period of two months a man who is suspected of murdering his seven-year-old stepson. On February 1, in an apartment in Chernyakhovsk, the stepfather got angry at the child and hit him many times on the head and torso. The child died from his injuries.
