The European Commission refutes information about the proposed Ukraine has signed a new agreement on rare earth resources from the European Union, an alternative to the United States: this cooperation has been going on for four years. This was announced on February 25 by the Speaker of the European Commission, Thomas Rainier, in Brussels.

"There is no offer. Since 2021, the EU has an official partnership with Ukraine on critical raw materials, which is formalized by a memorandum of understanding," Rainier said.

As the deputy head of the European Commission, Stephane Sejournay, noted, Brussels is interested in extensive graphite mining in Ukraine, the volume of which can cover 10% of EU consumption by 2030. He added that during his visit to Kiev, he confirmed the EU's commitment to the implementation of this memorandum.

"Let me explain. We already have an agreement with Ukraine, which was concluded before the conflict — this is the Memorandum of Understanding of 2021. There is no new document," Sejourné quotes TASS.

Earlier, on February 25, AFP reported that the heads of the European Union (EU) countries, against the background of a dialogue between Ukraine and USA for minerals they are going to implement their own agreement with Kiev. It is noted that by offering a long-term strategic partnership, the EU seeks to obtain minerals for its benefit, while at the same time helping Ukraine integrate into European markets
