Freezing the conflict on It is impossible for Ukraine to move along the current line of contact due to the provisions of the Russian Constitution, according to which the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics and the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions are regions of the Russian Federation. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on February 26.

"There were ideas like "let's leave the line of contact — this is the Russian one, and this is the Ukrainian one." Firstly, this will not happen, we have a Constitution based on the will of the people," he stressed at a press conference in Doha.

Lavrov added that there are people in the territories controlled by Kiev who are more comfortable speaking Russian and who want to preserve the traditions of their ancestors. He noted that plans to deploy Western troops in Ukraine would only lead to an escalation of the conflict.

According to the minister, sending peacekeeping forces "cannot be avoided", it is necessary to talk about the root causes of the crisis.

Earlier in the day, Lavrov stated that No one has asked Russia about the deployment of foreign peacekeepers in Ukraine, such statements are aimed only at fueling the conflict, not stopping it. He pointed out that this topic was raised during the meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and the American leader Donald Trump in Washington.
