St. Petersburg law enforcement authorities have detained a repeat offender in the case of the murder of a woman with Down syndrome. Traces of strangulation were found on her body. This was reported on February 26 in the Telegram channel of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.

The ministry said that the body of a 43-year-old woman with signs of suffocation and bodily injuries was found in the apartment of house No. 17 on Komsomolskaya Street. A criminal case of murder has been opened.

Law enforcement agencies immediately identified the alleged perpetrator. He turned out to be a 26-year-old resident of St. Petersburg. The jacket of the murdered woman and her jewelry were found in the detainee's possession. The man did not deny involvement in the murder. The suspect has several criminal records, including theft of weapons, robbery and murder.

In the near future, the man will be taken to the investigative authorities for the necessary procedural actions.

Earlier, on February 25, in the Chelyabinsk region police detained the head of a rural settlement, a district deputy and his son. All three are suspected of kidnapping and murder with extreme brutality.
