In 2024, spending on interregional housing transactions in Russia amounted to almost 8 trillion rubles, follows from the results of a study by VTB Bank and the digital platform "Meter Square", which was reviewed by Izvestia on February 27. Experts said that in most cases Russians buy real estate in another region for investment purposes, for children or other family members.

By the end of January 2025, 68.5 thousand interregional housing transactions totaling about 400 billion rubles took place in Russia, which is 8% higher than in the first month of 2024.

According to analysts, about 40% of such purchases are investments. One in five buys housing for children or other family members. 10% purchase real estate in another region in order to be closer to their relatives.

The average check for an interregional transaction in the primary market in January 2025 amounted to about 5.4 million rubles, in the secondary market — about 7 million rubles. Experts explained this difference by the high popularity of studios and studio apartments in new buildings.

"Setting the tone in the market of inter-regional transactions Moscow and the Moscow region with a share of 27% and 18%, respectively. One in ten moves to St. Petersburg. The Leningrad Region occupies 6% in the segment of interregional transactions, and the Krasnodar Territory closes the top 5 with 5%," the results of the study say.

At the same time, residents of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East are three times more likely to move to the west than residents of the Central, Northwestern, Southern, North Caucasian and Volga Federal Districts to the east.

Earlier, on February 5, it was reported that almost half of the Russians surveyed somehow linked their plans in 2025 with the solution of the housing issue. One in eight (12%) plans to start saving and save money for an apartment. This is stated in the research results of the Level Group company.
