American actor John Lithgow will play Professor Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming HBO series Harry Potter, which is scheduled to premiere in 2026. This was reported on February 25 by ScreenRant.

In an interview for the publication, 79-year-old Lithgow admitted that this decision was not easy for him, but he agreed to accept the offer to participate in the filming.

"It was a complete surprise to me. "... It wasn't an easy decision because it would define the last chapter of my life. But I'm very glad. "...Even though I'll be about 87 years old at the movie release party, I agreed," the actor said.

Lithgow became the first actor to officially confirm his participation in the cast for a fantasy series.

The actor is the winner of the prestigious Golden Globe and Emmy film awards. In particular, he was noted for his role as serial killer Trinity in the TV series Dexter.
