The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Tatiana Moskalkova, called on the State Duma to speed up the adoption of a decision on the draft law on the payment of alimony to children after the age of 18. The relevant proposals are contained in report on the activities of the Ombudsman for 2024.

She called the solution of this issue relevant due to the fact that coming of age does not always coincide with full financial independence. According to her, it would be fair to supplement the Family Code of the Russian Federation with a norm on the right to receive alimony for adult children who study in educational institutions.

"The relevant draft law has been developed by the Russian Ministry of Justice, and we propose speeding up its submission to the State Duma," the document says.

The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation on October 25 last year proposed to establish a duty pay alimony to adults under the age of 23 if they receive full-time education. It also offered permission to receive alimony for adult school graduates before September 1 of the year of graduation, if they have not yet reached the age of 19.
