The time of school holidays is annually approved by the Ministry of Education. Rest periods are advisory in nature, and each school can determine them independently. Izvestia reports on which days schoolchildren are offered to rest in the spring of 2025.

The start and end dates of the holidays depend on the form of study. In Russia, students study in quarters or trimesters. For example, almost all schools practice the trimester (modular) system Moscow and the Moscow region.

In educational institutions that operate under this system, training lasts for five weeks, followed by a week of rest. Thus, schoolchildren go on vacation in the spring twice — in February and April. In 2025, the first holidays in many schools of this type were held from February 15 to 24. The next ones will start on April 5 and last a week — up to and including April 13.

The quarter system divides the year into four parts. Accordingly, students have a rest four times a year. Spring break under this system will begin at the end of March. The recommended period of the Ministry of Education is from the 22nd to the 31st of the month.

In addition, additional holidays are provided for first-graders. In 2025, they were held from February 15 to 24. Also, all children, regardless of the educational system, will have a rest during the May holidays: from 1 to 4 May — in honor of Spring and Labor Day, and from 8 to 11 May — in honor of Victory Day.

At the same time, there is no additional weekend in the spring on the occasion of March 8. In accordance with the government decree, he will be taken off on June 13 after Russia Day.

However, the school itself decides on what schedule the children will study. This decision is made at a meeting of the governing council, which includes both teachers and representatives of the parent committee.
