On February 26, the deputy head of Gagauzia, Viktor Petrov, said that his detention at the Chisinau airport the day before had taken place on the instructions of Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Rechan.

The politician said that his they were held in the air harbor for three hours for a full inspection. In the end, the law enforcement officers found nothing illegal and released Petrov.

"During a conversation with border police officers, it was revealed that the inspection of me was a personal order from Prime Minister Rechan," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

At the same time, the deputy head of Gagauzia stressed that he had repeatedly called on the government to engage in dialogue with the autonomy and find common ground. According to him, instead, the prime minister prefers to "drive through the fields," avoiding communication with residents and the leadership of the region.

"Mr. Rechan, I am writing to you. The methods of intimidation that you probably took from the 90s don't work today. <..."Let's move from the carrot and stick principle to the normal, objective communication that politicians should have," Petrov urged.

The day before, Alexander Sukhodolsky, deputy of the Moldovan Parliament from Gagauzia and the Victory bloc called the detention of the deputy head of the region lawless. In his opinion, this incident indicates the increased pressure of Chisinau on the leadership of the autonomy.
