In the Republic of South Africa (South Africa), a group of people with Russian flags interrupted a pro-Ukrainian protest rally by turning on the song "Sigma Boy". This was announced on February 24 by the publication Independent Online (IOL).

It is noted that on Sunday, the Association of Ukrainians of South Africa held a demonstration on a pier in the city of Durban, but a few minutes after the start of the action, a group of people holding Russian flags over their heads approached them.

On videos distributed on the Internet, you can hear the song "Sigma Boy" playing as a musical accompaniment to a group of people.

Later, the police intervened and separated the groups, the newspaper writes.

The song "Sigma Boy" was released in October 2024. She became very popular on social media very quickly. In January, the track took seventh place on the Billboard international music chart. The song was included in the rating of pop music and dance songs.

January 26, German politician, member of the European Parliament from the Volt Europe party Nela Riel called for banning Sigma Boy because the song allegedly helps spread pro-Russian and patriarchal views.

On January 29, Evgeny Schmidt, a deputy from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, told Izvestia that the proposal to ban Sigma Boy, which was performed by two Russian schoolgirls, was manifestation of anti-Russian propaganda. He noted that he sees no reason to think that this song can be used for propaganda against Europe.
