France, Germany and other European Union (EU) countries, as well as the United Kingdom, are ready to send military personnel to Ukraine to ensure a truce, French Minister of Economy and Finance Eric Lombard said on February 26 at a meeting of heads of G20 financial institutions in Cape Town.

In addition, France expects to support European troops on Ukraine in this case will also receive USA.

"If we want the ceasefire to be respected, we need the support of the USA. I believe that the Americans have agreed to do this," the agency quoted him as saying href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-02-26/france-expects-us-to-provide-backup-after-ukraine-ceasefire " target="_blank">Bloomberg.

Lombard noted that he accompanied French President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Washington, and held talks with his counterpart, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant.

"We discussed all issues, trade, tariffs, non-tariff barriers. We have agreed to continue negotiations, which is a step forward," the minister said.

Earlier, on February 25, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that the plan of the American President Donald Trump on resolving the conflict in Ukraine does not include US obligations to send troops to the region or provide assistance in the event of a resumption of hostilities.

On the same day, Trump at a press conference following talks with Macron called the question about the prospects of Washington's assistance for the reconstruction of Ukraine strange. According to him, the United States has already invested about $350 billion in the Ukrainian side.
