- The museum's specialists established the murder of 11 prisoners in the Kolosjoki-8 camp during the Second World War

"The Local History Museum of the Pechenga District has been working for three years based on materials from Finnish sources, including the cards of prisoners of war of the Kolosjoki-8 camp...It was a mining and metallurgical plant, and during the Great Patriotic War our prisoners of war worked there. From Finnish sources, we found that there were about 500 people in the camp in the 41st year, and 229 in the 42nd year. There were also 508 prisoners of war at the end of the 42nd year and 475 in the 44th year. It also follows from Finnish sources that there were six people killed in the 41st year, and five people in the 42nd year," said the museum specialist.
According to Anna Churlik, thanks to Finnish sources and books, collections of scientific articles that refer to the National Archives of Finland, when translated, specialists were able to access the military journal of the Kolosjoki-8 camp. The journal has now been fully translated into Russian.
"Therefore, the source is very invaluable to us," the methodologist pointed out.
Anna Churlik also showed the memorial complex "Valley of Glory" in the Murmansk region.
"The old-timers of Nickel have known about this cemetery for a long time. More than 10 years ago, search engines from the Moscow region came here. <...We worked directly with the search engines of the Pechenga district. They installed a cross of worship, where commemorative events are held on important dates for our municipality," said the methodologist.
Murmansk Regional Court on February 24 reviewed the case on the recognition of the crimes of fascists in the occupied territories of the region during the Second World War as genocide. According to the Izvestia correspondent from the courtroom, the testimonies of eyewitnesses, historians and documentary filmmakers were reviewed. Representatives of the public organization "Children of the Military of Murmansk" also took part in the process.
